APD Global delivered eleven telecom racks into the cross-passage tunnel on the Forrestfield–Airport Link. The racks were planned and pre-dressed at the warehouse so the night possession could be used for install, not assembly.
The design had to fit live tunnel constraints and a fixed delivery window. Working with Nokia and the Public Transport Authority, the agreed deadline was met. A special train ran at 1:50 am and stopped in the tunnels to place the rack infrastructure.
The rack delivery is one night inside a much larger programme. APD Global is delivering Western Australia's first 4G signalling system for the Public Transport Authority with Nokia - more than 80 LTE / 4.9G radio sites along tracks and through tunnels, the radio layer that sits under the signalling. The Forrestfield–Airport Link works form part of that rail-comms programme.
It is also how the firm takes telco work generally: design and construct, not a drawing pack handed over the fence. Sites are designed, built, tested and handed back by the same house, with the accreditation that sits on the power utilities sitting on the telco owners as well - years on the Telstra, nbn, Western Power and Transgrid networks.
