APD Global was appointed Independent Engineer for the Waratah Super Battery on behalf of EnergyCo and Transgrid. The battery sits next to Transgrid’s Munmorah substation - 1,400 MWh, initially the largest of its kind globally at award, now the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
It is more than storage. EnergyCo’s own line: the project is now operating as a shock absorber for the NSW grid - injecting power when a line goes down to lightning, bushfire or a fault, so supply holds for the Hunter, Sydney and the Illawarra. Transgrid built the System Integrity Protection Scheme around it. That scheme is what keeps the lights on.
